Tokyo Express from Friendly Planet Travel is just that: a quick trip to the Japanese capital that hits the highlights in just seven days for the amazingly low price of $1,499 per person.
The trip begins in Tokyo and includes one day of city touring to the Tokyo Tower, the Meiji Shrine, the East Garden of the Imperial Palace and then on to the Ginza, the popular market and shopping area. The rest of the time participants may kick around the city on their own or sign up for a guided walking tour around Tokyo neighborhoods ($80 per person) or an excursion to Mt. Fuji and Hakone (an extra $175 per person).
The deal: To check on the savings for this deal, I did some rough estimates of what airfare, five nights at the Keio Plaza Hotel, airport transfers and a city tour would cost without the package. My calculations came to about $1,900 per person. So two traveling together stand to save about $800.
When: Trip departures from Los Angeles are May 8 and Sept. 4.
Price: $1,499 per person, double occupancy. It includes round-trip airfare from L.A. to Tokyo, airline tax and fees as well as fuel surcharges, airport transfers, five nights at the Keio Plaza Hotel, daily breakfast buffet and city tour.
