New York City: Share a room starting at $99 a night at Out NYC
- Share via
A room in New York city as low as $99 a night? Well, sort of. The newish hotel The Out NYC, which bills itself as a “gay- and straight-friendly” urban resort on West 42nd Street, takes the hostel model to new heights. Solo travelers pay the low rate at this sleek new hotel by sharing a room with three other guests.
The deal: With what the hotel calls Sleep Shares, you pay $99 a person and get a full-sized bed, work space with desk, a cubby for your suitcase and clothes, Wi-Fi access and a 22-inch flat-screen TV of your own. The sleeping area has curtains that provide some privacy (strictly one person per bed). You also share a bathroom with your new roommates -- men or women.
When: The offer is good indefinitely.
Tested: If you’re used to bare-bones hostel accommodations, Out NYC’s elevated room-share experience might be a good option to save money in a city where hotel rooms are expensive. I’d love to hear from readers who have tried this or plan to try it.
I found availablity for three nights starting June 25 for a room share with a full-sized bed and continental breakfast. Total for the three-night stay with tax and fees: $351. You can always bring three friends and fill the room with folks you know for the $99 per person rate.
