Web Buzz: Pocket First Aid & CPR app is for medical emergency

An essential app to have on the front page of your device. You might need it only once, but that one time could save a life.

Name: Pocket First Aid & CPR from the American Heart Assn.

Available for: iPhone, iPod touch, iPad; Android.

What it does: Catalogs quick, easy-to-understand information so you can respond to and treat a medical emergency before help arrives. Some of the emergencies include choking, seizures and possible spinal cord injuries.

Cost: $2.99 Android Market/ $3.99 iTunes.

What’s hot: There are 36 videos and 46 illustrations throughout the app. The videos add clarity and authority; it was helpful to see the CPR video with visual information on chest compressions and which kinds would be too much or too little to help.

What’s not: Have your family’s blood types handy before you program your medical files. I didn’t know my daughter’s, and there was no option to add it later. So it’s input incorrectly until I can fix it (But you can add a note to a profile.)

Worth it: Put it at the top of your to-do list.
