Las Vegas: Take a gamble on this ski and snowboard resort
The Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort, one of Sin City‘s best-kept secrets, is open for the 2012-13 season. There are new features as the resort celebrates its 50th anniversary.
It’s less than an hour’s drive from the Strip to the slopes in Lee Canyon, in the Spring Mountains near Mt. Charleston in southern Nevada.
The resort’s owners hope new amenities this winter will lure people away from the casinos. The resort has 14 new, groomed trails, bringing the total to 30, plus a new quad chairlift. At the base, the Bighorn Grill, the resort’s restaurant, has been remodeled and features an updated menu.
As it turns 50, the Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort is pledging to pump $35 million into other improvements, including adding 20 more trails, bringing the total to 50, and six new lifts along with the current four.
The resort is in the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest and receives more than 240 inches of snow each winter.
Single-day lift tickets for adults cost $50 Mondays-Fridays and $60 on weekends. Multiday and season tickets are also available. Skiing is offered 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
