Web Buzz: Free phone app finds AAA discounts

Do you use your AAA membership for only roadside assistance? This app reminds you that there are many opportunities to save money with your card when traveling.

What it does: Uses GPS to pinpoint and track your location, then sends you merchant discount offers in your area. You can plug in a city you might be traveling to and check discounts before you book your travel. I found 20% off hotel bookings and car rental as well as train discounts and cheaper tickets to museums. The app also offers turn-by-turn directions.

What’s hot: You don’t have to waste your time scrolling through discounts you don’t care about. Click on the “more� area once you’re in the app and go to “discount types� to select the discounts you would like to see.

What’s not: It would be great if the discounts could be sorted by greatest savings.

Worth it: If you are a member of AAA, this is a great companion tool to show you a number of new ways to make the most of your membership.
