Your Scene: Great Mosque of Cordoba in Spain
- Share via
Times reader “lachnowicz” captured this stunning view inside Great Mosque of Córdoba in Spain. One of the largest sacred Islamic buildings in the world, the mosque is slightly smaller than St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome. About 850 pillars buttress the mosque’s interior, forming an array of aisles like the one seen here.
Located in the Andalusia region of southern Spain, the mosque was built in the 8th century and later expanded. In the 13th century, it was converted into a Christian cathedral.
