Spring Break at the Boardwalk
The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk turns 100 this year. For spring break, rides open midweek and free beach concerts are planned; meet-and-greet sessions with celebs include former TV Batman Adam West, Zoo Station and MTV VJ Jim Shearer; and a sushi-rolling contest, kids’ dance party with Cartoon Network characters and more.When, where: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 11 and 12; 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. April 13.

“Bouquets to History and Art”
Monterey Bay-area florists and designers take works displayed at the Maritime and History Museum and re-create them in flowers. The floral creations go on exhibit next to the works that inspired them. Last year’s event included floral interpretations of sardine cannery workers, a ship’s wheel and a fishing boat.When, where: April 12 to 15 at Maritime and History Museum, 5 Custom House Plaza, Monterey.

EarthDance Environmental Film Festival
Forty documentaries, mockumentaries, animated films, thrillers and family-friendly fare — plus a panel of scientists, artists, business people and others — discuss ecology and the environment.When, where: 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. April 14 and noon to 10 p.m. April 15 at the Oakland Museum of California, 10th and Oak streets in Oakland.

Santa Clarita Cowboy Festival
The 14th annual celebration of all things Western includes a cowboy fashion show, cowboy music concerts, poetry, tours of Melody Ranch film studio and more.When, where: Festival 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 28 and 29 at Melody Ranch in Newhall, with additional events starting April 25 at various locations in the Santa Clarita Valley.

Tejano Conjunto Festival

Plowing and sheep shearing
At Billings Farm & Museum in Woodstock, teamsters with draft horses and oxen compete in a plowing contest, and a sheep-shearing event includes carding and spinning wool.When, where: Plowing Match, May 6; Sheep Shearing Weekend, May 26 and 27.
