June Mountain essentials
Here are the essentials on June Mountain: About 80% of the runs are for beginners or intermediate skiers. The main lodge, June Meadows Chalet, is halfway up the hill, accessible from the parking lot from Chair J1 after you buy your lift tickets. It’s a sprawling lodge with rentals, decent ski food and a small lounge.
At 500 skiable acres, June is about one-sixth the size of Mammoth, which owns and runs it. But it has bonfires at the end of the day and an uncommonly friendly staff, which means kids 4 to 14 will probably love June Mountain.
Unlike many hills, the very top runs are intermediate. Many black diamonds are below the lodge. Look for Silverado, a long run that’s a favorite for young families. Intermediates should aim for Sunrise; advanced skiers and boarders, Pro Bowl and the face.
