Santa Cruz B & Bs mark a milestone
Dig your toes in the sand, soak up some rays or grab a surfboard and hang 10 while you celebrate more than 100 years of tourism in Santa Cruz at one of three area bed-and-breakfast inns. Each has a special rate starting at less than $200 per night.
The deal: Rates start at $159 per night for winter specials good Sundays through Thursdays. Stay at the Babbling Brook Inn (1025 Laurel St., Santa Cruz, [800] 433-4732, www.babblingbrookinn.com), where rates start at $159 (through March 31); at the Inn at Depot Hill (250 Monterey Ave., Capitola, [800] 433-4732, www.innatdepothill.com,), where rates start at $189 (through March 31); or at the West Cliff Inn (174 W. Cliff Drive, Santa Cruz, [800] 979-0910, www.westcliffinn.com,), where rates start at $195 (two-night stay required, through Feb. 28).
The inns: The Babbling Brook Inn is true to its name, with a cascading waterfall and brook running through pine and redwood trees. The Inn at Depot Hill, once home to a Southern Pacific Railroad depot, was renovated as an inn in 1990. The West Cliff Inn is a three-story Victorian on a bluff across from Cowell’s Beach and the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk.
