Dutch, French exhibitions commemorate death of Van Gogh
Two other museums, one in the Netherlands, the other in Arles, France, where Vincent van Gogh lived at the end of his life, are offering noteworthy anniversary-related exhibitions.
The Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo, 65 miles east of Amsterdam, is offering “Van Gogh & Co. Criss-crossing the Collection” through Sept. 27. It features 50 paintings and drawings by Van Gogh from its collection, the second largest in the world after that of the Van Gogh Museum, displayed with works by his predecessors, contemporaries and followers, including Henri Fantin-Latour, Paul Signac, Paul Gauguin and Isaac Israels. The Kröller-Müller also is offering anniversary-related concerts, lectures and workshops, as well as a special cycle route on Van Gogh and nature organized by Hoge Veluwe National Park. Info: Kröller-Müller Museum, 6 Houtkampweg, Otterlo; 011-31-318-591-241, www.krollermuller.nl/van-gogh-and-co. Open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays-Sundays and national holidays.
The Fondation Vincent van Gogh in the Provencal town of Arles will exhibit June 12-Sept. 20 some 50 of Van Gogh’s drawings as well as other artists’ works that inspired him. Van Gogh spent the first three years of his career drawing, not painting, convinced that drawing was necessary for his development as an artist.
