Amtrak rolled out 15% student, senior and disabled passenger ticket discounts for trains serving Southern and Northern California as well as the Central Valley.
The rail service’s California Everyday Discounts program is designed to provide a break on prices for short-distance travel in the Golden State, a news release said. Discounts are good on tickets for the popular Pacific Surfliner, which runs between San Diego and San Luis Obispo, the Capitol Corridor in Northern California and the San Joaquin in Central Valley.
Seniors who are 62 and older save 15% on a regular adult fare ticket (with promo code V282). Disabled travelers (with promo code V577) and students who are 13 to 25 years old (with promo code V353) receive the same discount.
The savings are good whether you book online, by phone or in person at staffed stations.
By the way, children from 2 to 12 years old always ride for half-price with a paying adult; kids younger than 2 are free.
The discount isn’t valid on long-distance routes, such as the California Zephyr, Coast Starlight, Southwest Chief and others.
