Six Las Vegas Strip hotels raise their resort fees

Resort fees, the sometimes hidden charges that hotels tack on to cover conveniences from phone calls to Wi-Fi, increased Monday at six hotels on the Las Vegas Strip.

The fee will now be $25 per room per night at all eight Caesars Entertainment properties.

That’s an increase of $3 to $5 at Bally’s, Flamingo, Harrah’s, the Linq (formerly the Quad), Paris and Planet Hollywood.

The rate was already $25 at Caesars Palace and the Cromwell.

The charge covers Wi-Fi access for two devices, local telephone calls and use of the hotels’ pools and fitness centers. The fee is nonnegotiable, even if a guest doesn’t use any of the services.

The rates still vary at MGM Resorts’ 14 properties along Las Vegas Boulevard. Circus Circus charges $14.50. The cost is $28 at properties such as Aria, Bellagio and Delano. Those prices include taxes. (Some other hotel companies tack on the tax later.)

The fee at four other big players on the Strip – the Venetian, the Palazzo, Wynn and Encore is $25 per night.

Unlike airlines, which now must include the total price, including taxes and fees upfront, hotels along the Las Vegas Strip continue to display a base price that’s lower than what a guest eventually pays.

MGM Resorts properties and Wynn/Encore list the resort fee, though in smaller print, beneath the room rates. Potential customers at Caesars Entertainment properties, the Venetian and the Palazzo only learn of the fees after clicking on a room rate and being directed to another page.
