Deal: You can find luxury in Starwood’s San Diego hotels for as little as $99

The swank US Grant, the W San Diego in downtown and other Starwood area hotels have put rooms on sale for as low as $99 a night. The deal will work for anyone seeking a late summer midweek getaway on the cheap -- as long as you book by Aug. 5.
The deal: Hotel sales come and go, but if you want to lock in a rate you like at a place you like, consider these offers. You may book online (follow the links below) or by calling the hotel and asking for the TRVLZOO1 price.
The hotels are all part of Starwood Hotels and Resorts (for those who want to rack up some SPG loyalty program points). Click on the hotel to see which dates are available at the sale price.
Participating hotels include:
US Grant at 236 Broadway; (866) 716-8136. In August and September rooms start at $179.
W San Diego at 421 W B St.; (877) 822-0000. In August and September rooms start at $159
Sheraton La Jolla at 3299 Holiday Court in La Jolla; (866) 716-8134. In September rooms start at $149.
Westin San Diego Gaslamp at 910 Broadway Circle; (866) 716-8108; and the Westin San Diego at 400 W. Broadway; (866) 716-8108. In August and September rooms start at $149.
Sheraton Mission Valley at 1433 Camino Del Rio S, (866) 716-8134. In August and September rooms start at $129.
Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina at 1380 Harbor Island Drive; (866) 716-8134. In August rooms start at $99.
When: The offer is good for reservations made by Aug. 5 and for stays at some hotels through Dec. 31.
Tested: The caveat here is that you have to work within the selected dates at each hotel. I checked online and found availability Aug. 23 to 25 for a “Wonderful” room at the W San Diego for $159 plus tax. (Midweek prices on other August dates I checked cost $199 plus tax for the same room.)
I also found a room Aug. 30 to Sept. 1 for $99 plus tax in the Marina Tower of the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina. (Midweek prices on other August dates I checked cost $149 for the same room.)
Info: Contact individual hotels to make a reservation.
