USC recruiting roundup: Out-of-state official visits
Every Tuesday we will feature a USC recruiting update.
USC hosted three out-of-state recruits on official visits over the weekend.
Offensive lineman Chuma Edoga from Georgia and running back Aca’Cedric Ware and receiver DaMarkus Lodge from Texas watched the Trojans defeat Oregon State, 35-10.
Under former coach Lane Kiffin and recruiting coordinator Ed Orgeron, USC did not host official visits until after the season, with rare exception.
Kiffin said USC and recruits benefited because the coaching staff could fully dedicate its attention to recruits, instead of dividing it between recruits and a game.
First-year Trojans Coach Steve Sarkisian said he would host out-of-state recruits on official visits during the season.
“For a kid coming from out of state to experience [the Coliseum] game-day atmosphere, I think it’s advantageous for us,†Sarkisian said.
USC will continue to host in-state recruits on official visits after the season, Sarkisian said.
Edoga was recently selected to play in the Army All-American game. He signed a financial-aid agreement with USC this month and is expected to enroll in January.
Ware committed to USC in July and can sign a letter of intent with USC in February.
Lodge is Ware’s Cedar Hill High teammate who was once committed to Texas A&M.
