Up next for USC basketball: Saturday vs. Oregon State
When: 5 p.m.
Where: Galen Center.
On the air: TV: Pac-12 Networks; Radio: 710.
Records: USC 7-11, 2-3; Oregon State 10-7, 0-4.
Update: USC took No. 21 Oregon into the final 30 seconds Thursday night but missed three shots on its final possession — two from close range — and lost, 76-74. Had the Trojans not missed 12 of their 32 free throws, interim Coach Bob Cantu might have had his first victory. Still, it was an encouraging performance that could help the Trojans against Oregon State. If USC guard J.T. Terrell continues to make three-pointers, forward Eric Wise plays effectively inside and from the perimeter and 7-footer Dewayne Dedmon gets going early rather than late, the Trojans might beat the Beavers and have some confidence when they head to the Arizona schools next week. Oregon State has lost four games in a row, but three came against ranked teams — Oregon, No. 7 Arizona and No. 24 UCLA. Junior guard Roberto Nelson, who played at Santa Barbara High, is averaging 15.5 points a game, one of five players averaging 10 or more points.
