USC basketball sophomore forward Jordan Usher announced Monday on his Twitter account that he has been granted his release to transfer from the school and will do so before the Trojans begin conference play this week.

Usher’s sudden departure hurts a team already hurting for quality depth in its rotation. The Trojans (7-6) are waiting for wings Charles O’Bannon Jr. (finger) and Kevin Porter Jr. (bruised quad) to return to the lineup.

Usher, who was averaging 8.6 points and 3.7 rebounds per game, provided versatility to play on the wing or inside at power forward.

He did not play in Sunday night’s win over UC Davis because of an indefinite suspension.

USC opens Pac-12 play Thursday night at the Galen Center against California.
