Spurs’ Tony Parker still recovering from NYC club brawl
San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker says he will miss about a week of practice with France’s Olympic team after suffering an eye injury during an incident at a New York City nightclub that also left his friend Chris Brown and several others injured.
Parker wore sunglasses during a news conference in Paris on Friday, which was later posted on YouTube. He said he was wearing a “therapeutic” contact lens after sustaining a scratched retina during the incident early Thursday at the club W.i.P. in SoHo.
“I was with my friend Chris Brown and me and my friends took some punches, so I’ll be missing the start of the French team because I can’t do anything for a week except keep the lens in and then take drops,” said Parker, who added that bottles were thrown during the incident.
He said went to an emergency room for treatment after arriving in Paris. “At first it was OK, but then it started getting worse, and when the plane landed it was really hurting, so I went straight to the ER,” Parker said.
The Spurs declined comment on Parker’s injury.
There has been much speculation about the incident, which reportedly involved R&B singer Brown and rappers Drake and Meek Mill and/or their respective entourages. Police have said Brown, his girlfriend and his bodyguard were among several people injured during the incident, which is still being investigated.
