Turns out, when you beat the No. 1 team in the country and lead the game in scoring and rebounding, you get recognized for it.
UCLA center Thomas Welsh was named the Pac-12’s player of the week, the conference announced Monday.
Welsh scored 21 points and 11 rebounds in UCLA’s 87-77 win over No. 1 Kentucky on Thursday.
He added an additional 15 points and 10 rebounds in an 83-76 victory over Long Beach State on Sunday.
The 7-footer is averaging 13.3 points and 7.1 rebounds per game this season.
Welsh is the first UCLA player this year to receive the award. Former UCLA guard Norman Powell earned the award last season in March.
