At least Rory McIlroy can smile about it.

At the BMW Championship this past weekend, the world’s top-ranked golfer suffered the kind of embarrassment usually associated with weekend hackers. He four-putted not once but twice -- both times on the No. 12 hole.

“Two four-putts on the same green?†he told reporters. “It’s not my worst, I have five-putted before.â€

On Saturday, he missed the green on the par-3 hole and ended up with a triple bogey. On Sunday, he at least reached the green in regulation and walked away with a double bogey.

“It sort of shows everyone out there that we do the same things as they do every weekend,†he said, adding that “it’s one of those things that at least I can laugh about it and move on.â€

McIlroy stands third -- behind Chris Kirk and BMW winner Billy Horschel -- as the FedEx Cup playoffs head into the Tour Championship with a $10-million bonus on the line.
