The New Orleans Saints weren’t able to pry the football from Redskins rookie Robert Griffin III, so why should anybody else?

Griffin wasn’t letting go of the ball after Sunday’s 40-32 victory at the Superdome, according to a Washington Post report, and declined someone’s offer to hold it for him while he did interviews after the game.

Griffin waved off the offer. “I got it,†he said.

Actually, he had just about everything under control all day. Playing in a stadium where no visiting team had won since the 2010 season, RG3 became the first player in NFL history to throw for at least 300 yards and two touchdowns without an interception in his debut game.

“He was a sight for sore eyes,†said Redskins linebacker London Fletcher, who has played through a steady stream of mediocre Washington quarterbacks.

Next up, the Redskins play at St. Louis, which intercepted Detroit’s Matthew Stafford three times Sunday in an impressive first game, albeit a 27-23 Rams loss.

Opening with back-to-back games on the road is a tall order for any quarterback, let alone a rookie, and there will be some down weeks for RG3. But with the way he looked Sunday, this could be a very interesting year for the Redskins.
