Ray Rice hasn’t played in the NFL in two seasons. The shocking video of him knocking out the woman who is now his wife is still out there for the world, including teams’ general managers, to see.

But he’s still hoping for another chance.

“I do want to play football again and I’m not ready to give up,†Rice said Thursday on “The Dan Patrick Show.â€

Rice played six seasons for the Baltimore Ravens, winning a Super Bowl ring and making three Pro Bowls. But he was cut in September 2014 after the release of a video of punching out then-fiancee Janay Palmer and dragging her out of an elevator at an Atlantic City casino earlier in the year.

He stayed in shape, hoping he might get another chance going into this season.

“I thought early in the year,†he said. “I would have loved to be in a training camp, learn an offense and things like that.â€

It didn’t happen. But he’s holding out hope and says he thinks he could be a positive influence on younger players.

“I feel like there’s a voice missing,†he said. “Why wouldn’t you want somebody who’s been through the fire?â€

Early reaction on Twitter seems to indicate many listeners would be willing to give Rice that second chance.
