Phil Mickelson has wild start at Wells Fargo Championship

It looked like the start of a great day, Phil Mickelson charging out of the gate with three consecutive birdies.
But then his first round at the Wells Fargo Championship on Thursday turned into a roller-coaster ride.
Mickelson stumbled to a double-bogey, followed by two more bogeys, before righting himself with two birdies coming down the stretch. Through 14 holes at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, N.C., he stood tied for 18th at 1-under.
“This is a course I played well in the past and it’s a course I like and feel comfortable on,” he said on Wednesday, adding: “You can get away with a bad shot if you can hit a good recovery.”
Webb Simpson and Robert Streb shared the early lead at 5-under.
