Phil Jackson was back on Twitter on Monday morning, trying to explain what he meant a day earlier when he tweeted that Stephen Curry reminded him of Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf.

That’s the same Stephen Curry who appears to be well on his way to a second-straight MVP award while enjoying one of the most ridiculous seasons in NBA history. On Saturday night, the Golden State star broke his own league record with 288 three-pointers in a single season -- and the Warriors still have 24 games remaining this season.

And it’s the same Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf who was never an All Star during his nine-year career. He wasn’t at all a bad player, averaging as many as 19.2 points a game during two different seasons.

But it’s hard to imagine anyone ever linked him to Curry in the way Jackson did Sunday on Twitter.

Needless to say, the former coach of the Lakers and Chicago Bulls and current president of the Knicks felt the scorn of plenty of other Twitter users.

On Monday, Jackson clarified his comment, saying he just meant the two players had a similar style of play.

Makes sense, although it kind of ignores the fact that he did refer to Abdul-Rauf’s NBA career as “brilliant.†Maybe Jackson is just a big fan.
