NHL update: Kings’ forward Jordan Nolan to have disciplinary hearing

CALGARY, Canada -- Kings forward Jordan Nolan is facing potential supplementary discipline from the league for punching Oilers left wing Jesse Joensuu in the Kings’ 4-2 win at Edmonton on Sunday night.

The incident occurred late in the second period. Nolan received a double minor for roughing, and Joensuu went off for cross checking.

With the Kings playing the Flames on Monday night, Nolan will have a phone hearing with the league today. It had been set for this morning but the league has had to make adjustments to its schedule because of the ongoing meetings in Boca Raton, Fla., with the general managers.

One video clip of the scrum shows Nolan turning to look at the referee. He makes a slight gesture of appeal and then hits Jonesuu with a quick left. Photos posted on the Internet might explain the sequence. One shows Joensuu’s hand at a ... well, slightly sensitive area, which might explain Nolan’s reaction.

Nolan does have a history with the player safety department but he has not been suspended. He was fined $1,436.94 by the NHL for cross-checking Vancouver forward Henrik Sedin last season.
