Galaxy to loan forward Jose Villarreal to Cruz Azul of Mexico
The Galaxy said Monday it agreed to loan 20-year-old forward Jose Villarreal to Cruz Azul of Mexico’s Liga MX for the 2014 Major League Soccer season.
“Sending Jose Villarreal to Cruz Azul provides one of our homegrown players an opportunity to gain additional experience,†Galaxy General Manager and Head Coach Bruce Arena said in a statement. “We’ll monitor Jose’s play and wish him well in Mexico.â€
The loan fee was not disclosed.
A native of Inglewood, Villarreal scored three times in 31 games for the Galaxy this year, including two goals in MLS play and an additional goal in the CONCACAF Champions League tournament.
Villarreal signed with the Galaxy directly from the club’s youth academy in December 2011 and made his MLS debut on July 14, 2012, against the Portland Timbers.
