Missy Franklin turns pro after leading Cal to NCAA swim championship
After leading her college team to an NCAA championship this weekend, swimmer Missy Franklin has announced that she is turning professional.
Choosing the same agent w represents skier Lindsey Vonn, Franklin has signed with Mark Ervin of WME-IMG, according to the Associated Press.
The 19-year-old sophomore can now accept money for endorsement deals while she continues with international competition and training for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
The announcement came the morning after California outswam Georgia and Stanford for the NCAA title in Greensboro, N.C. In what turned out to be her final college meet, Franklin won three individual championships.
“I’m so grateful for the experience that I’ve had,” she said. “It’s been a very emotional couple of days and I am just so proud of my team and what we’ve accomplished here.”
