Kings are destined to lose Game 7 ... unless they win it

The Kings’ Stanley Cup playoff history in winner-take-all games is spotty.

But, as with any statistic, you can make them say anything you want.

The Kings will face the San Jose Sharks in Game 7 of the Western Conference semifinals at Staples Center on Tuesday and things do look bleak. They have lost their last two Game 7s (both to the Colorado Avalanche) by a combined score of 9-1.

So the Kings don’t stand a chance.

On the other hand, the Kings are undefeated against California teams in Game 7s.

The Kings overcame a 3-2 series deficit against the now-defunct Oakland Seals in 1969, forcing a Game 7 on Bill “Cowboy� Flett’s third-period goal in a 4-3 victory in Game 6.

In Game 7 against the Seals, Ted Irvine scored two first-period goals, but it was third-period goals by Flett and Lowell MacDonald that pushed the Kings into the second round.

So San Jose doesn’t stand a chance.
