Kings and Blackhawks look beyond numbers for Game 5
CHICAGO -- Heading into Game 5 of the Western Conference finals on Saturday night, Kings Coach Darryl Sutter thinks too much has been made of what happened at the end of Game 4.
His team managed only two shots in the third period, losing to the Chicago Blackhawks and falling behind three games to one in the best-of-seven series.
Sutter talked about quality over quantity, pointing out that shots are relatively even for the series. Chicago leads in that total, 110-102, thanks mainly to a slew of chances on net in Game 1.
“It’s basically quality scoring chances and finishing the opportunity,†Sutter said. “At the end of the day, all those things everybody talks about, the only thing that matters is who scores the most goals.â€
His counterpart, Chicago Coach Joel Quenneville also looked beyond the statistics in praising how his team played on Thursday night.
“I thought our team had a real purpose to it ... whether it was puck placement, protecting the puck, good forecheck, good zone time in the offensive zone, odd-man rushes having to defend,†Quenneville said.
