Ex-Kings goalie Jonathan Bernier fights Buffalo’s Ryan Miller
Jonathan Bernier didn’t hide his enthusiasm when the Kings traded him to the Toronto Maple Leafs in June, telling The Times’ Lisa Dillman that he was “very happy to go play for a great club and great organization.â€
Goalies usually feel that way when they know a starting gig awaits them, but Bernier truly showed his dedication to the Maple Leafs on Sunday by becoming the first Toronto goalie since Felix Potvin (another former King) to engage in a fight.
An all-skaters brawl broke out during an exhibition game between the Maple Leafs and Buffalo Sabres, in which Bernier squared up against Buffalo’s Ryan Miller.
It definitely wasn’t one of the NHL’s better goalie-vs-goalie fights, but it’s the preseason, so Bernier has plenty of time to work on his craft. Maybe he can ask Patrick Roy for a pointer or two.
