Golfer D.H. Lee caught by TV camera flipping bird to fans [Video]
So much for golf being a gentleman’s game: D.H. Lee was caught on camera making an obscene gesture toward fans in the gallery after hitting a wayward shot Saturday.
Lee shot a second-round 66 to vault into contention for the AT&T National tournament at Congressional in Bethesda, Md., but struggled in the third round, during which he shot a 75.
Lee hit his approach shot at the par-four No. 12 over the green and scrambled to make a bogey. After the bad approach, he looked toward fans and gave them the middle finger.
The 25-year-old from South Korea said he wasn’t reacting to a heckler in the crowd.
“I’m sorry for that,†Lee said in an interview with the Golf Channel. “No, it was just for me. My ball. It was frustration. It wasn’t aimed at anyone.â€
Lee, who finished the third round tied for 20th, moved back to the first page of the leaderboard Sunday when he was six under par -- the best score for the day thus far -- through 15 holes of the final round. He trails leader Bill Haas by three strokes and Roberto Castro by one.
