NBA debuts ‘We Are One’ commercial following Donald Sterling scandal
Hours after Clippers owner Donald Sterling was banned for life from the NBA for his comments about black people, the league debuted a new commercial promoting the idea of unity.
Over a backdrop of clips showing members of various NBA teams -- including the Clippers -- embracing, high-fiving, huddling together, etc., these words gradually appear:
We are a team
On a team, ME becomes WE
We stand together
We strive together
We win together
We are a team
And this is our time
The spot ends with one final shot of the Clippers, followed by a black screen featuring the words, “We Are One,†with the NBA logo underneath.
It’s the same image that has been on display on the Clippers website (with the team logo in place of the league logo) since Tuesday’s announcement of Sterling’s punishment.
The Clippers also made a “We Are One†video of their own and played it on the big screen at Staples Center before Game 5 of their playoff series against Golden State on Tuesday night.
With the song “Not Giving In†by Rudimental playing in the background, the tribute shows team highlights behind these words:
To our team
We share your heart
Your spirit
Your courage
We stand with you
We Are One
The Clippers went on to defeat the Warriors, 113-103, to take a 3-2 series lead.
