Comedian, game-show host and big-time soccer fan Drew Carey has offered to donate $5,000 to charity in exchange for the jersey U.S. national team striker Chris Wondolowski wore while scoring three first-half goals in Tuesday’s 6-1 Gold Cup win over Belize in Portland, Ore.

But the jersey is noteworthy for reasons that go beyond Wondolowski’s hat trick. Unnoticed until after the game had started was the fact Wondolowski’s name was spelled wrong on the back of the shirt, with an extra “W†inserted in the middle.

“I was as amused as anyone to see Chris What’s-his-name’s name spelled incorrectly on the back of his jersey. Thought it would make a great souvenir,†Carey told U.S. Soccer.

The two charities Wondolowski chose were Nike N7 and Soccer Streets USA. Each group will receive $2,500.

The N7 Fund provides grants to Native American and Aboriginal communities in support of sport and physical activity programs for youth. (Wondolowski is a member of the Kiowa tribe, into which his mother was born.) Street Soccer USA uses the power of soccer to help homeless men and women transform their lives.

“I’m grateful to Drew for the generous donation,†Wondolowski said.†It was a very special night for me and the team. I really wanted to keep the jersey, but in the end it turns out the price is right.â€
