Bruins, Red Sox postpone Friday games in Boston

The Boston Bruins and Boston Red Sox postponed their scheduled games Friday in deference to law authorities’ search for a suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings.

The Red Sox did not announce a makeup date for the opener of their three-game series against the Kansas City Royals at Fenway Park.

The NHL announced that the Bruins’ game against the Pittsburgh Penguins at TD Garden was tentatively rescheduled for Saturday at 12:30 p.m. EDT. The league said the status of the game will be formalized no later than 8:30 a.m.

Because of that change, the league made another scheduling move, delaying the Penguins’ home game against the Buffalo Sabres from Saturday night until Tuesday.

The Bruins, who are vying with the Montreal Canadiens for the Northeast Division lead, have already had one game rescheduled. Their game at the TD Garden against the Ottawa Senators, originally set to have been played Monday, was moved to April 28. That extended the NHL season by a day.

An NBA game scheduled for Tuesday between the Boston Celtics and Indiana Pacers at TD Garden was not rescheduled because it did not affect the standings or playoff race. Each team played only 81 games for the season.
