Broncos, Peyton Manning are flirting with NFL history
Peyton Manning and the undefeated Denver Broncos are on such a roll, they’re approaching some historic numbers.
The Broncos have scored 127 points, tied with the 1966 Dallas Cowboys for the second-highest total in NFL history for a team in its first three games. Only the 1968 Cowboys scored more, with 132.
In beating Oakland on Monday night, Denver won its 14th consecutive regular-season game, tying a franchise record set in 1997-98. The Broncos can break that mark Sunday when they play host to Philadelphia.
Manning, who completed 32 of 37 passes against the Raiders for 374 yards and three touchdowns against Oakland, has thrown a league-high 12 touchdowns without an interception.
The last quarterback to throw at least 12 touchdown passes without an interception was Philadelphia’s Michael Vick in 2010.
“Just good play-calling,†Manning said of his success. “Trying to make good, smart, sound decisions. I think guys are doing a good job getting open on time. I think guys have a good clock in their head about when to come out of the break versus different coverages. Protection has been good, so it gives you a chance to see the field and try to throw accurate footballs.â€
