Broadcaster Bob Uecker gets locked inside Brewers’ press booth [Video]
Bob Uecker has been calling Milwaukee Brewers games a long time, but what happened Wednesday night at Miller Park had even the longtime broadcaster shaking his head and rolling his eyes.
And, of course, cracking jokes.
Ueker, 80, and broadcast partner Joe Block got trapped inside their radio booth during the Brewers’ 6-3 win over the Dodgers after the handle on the door broke and could not be used from either side.
A stadium employee finally had to enter the booth through the front on a long ladder extended from the loge level, then took the door off its hinges -- all as the seventh of the game proceeded below.
Also known for his comedic acting roles, Uecker naturally turned the situation into an on-air joke.
“People who are listening to the ballgame, I know what you’re thinking: `He’s ready for the [nursing] home. He’s cooked. It’s finally happened. He’s seeing ladders and doors without handles,’” said Uecker, who has been broadcasting Brewers games for 45 seasons.
