Former Angels GM Tony Reagins hired by Major League Baseball

Tony Reagins, who was fired as Angels general manager after the 2011 season, was hired Tuesday as Major League Baseball’s senior vice president for youth programs, a new role in which he will oversee the league’s expanded focus on youth baseball participation.

“Tony’s experience as a GM and farm director will be a great asset as MLB sets out to bring more people into our game, at all levels and from all communities,” Commissioner Rob Manfred said in a statement. “I believe Tony will be a bridge between the Commissioner’s office and the college, high school, amateur and youth baseball programs that we will reach more efficiently in the years ahead.”

Reagins, 48, replaced Bill Stoneman as Angels GM after the 2007 season and ran the club for four years in which it won the American League West in 2008 and 2009. Prior to becoming GM, he spent six years as the Angels’ director of player development.
