Angels put CF Peter Bourjos on DL, activate SS Erick Aybar
OAKLAND — The Angels, as expected, put center fielder Peter Bourjos on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday because of a left hamstring strain and activated shortstop Erick Aybar, who is in the lineup and leading off for Tuesday night’s game against the Oakland Athletics. Aybar had been on the DL because of a left heel bruise.
The Angels also recalled outfielder Scott Cousins from triple-A Salt Lake and sent left-hander Michael Roth back to triple A, bringing their bench back up to four players after Monday night’s 10-8, 19-inning loss to the A’s.
Bourjos, who was hitting .313 out of the leadoff spot, injured his leg when he crossed the first base bag on an 11th-inning sacrifice bunt.
Angels Manager Mike Scioscia also dropped struggling right fielder Josh Hamilton, who is batting .202 with a team-high 32 strikeouts, from the cleanup spot to the fifth spot, a move he alluded to after Hamilton was 0 for 8 with three strikeouts Monday night.
