Jets Coach Rex Ryan reportedly clears office for anticipated firing

New York Jets Coach Rex Ryan began clearing things from his office before the team’s flight Saturday to South Florida, sources confirmed to Newsday, although changes within the New York Jets organization were not expected to be announced until Monday.

The outcome of the Jets’ season finale against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday is not likely to change Ryan’s future with the franchise.

The expectation is that Jets owner Woody Johnson will part ways with his coach of six years.

Johnson has lined up former Washington Redskins general manager Charley Casserly to assist him in the event that he fires Ryan and/or second-year General Manager John Idzik. Casserly, in turn, reached out to former Green Bay Packers general manager Ron Wolf about assisting him with the potential candidate searches.

Ryan’s players assumed a major shakeup was inevitable.

“It’s expected,” defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson said. “Our record says it, so it’s expected. Just got to prepare for the worst.”

The Minnesota Vikings placed rookie Anthony Barr on injured reserve so he could have a minor knee procedure.

Oakland Raiders cornerback T.J. Carrie will sit out the season finale against the Denver Broncos because of an ankle injury. Carrie was downgraded from questionable to out Saturday.

The injury means Oakland will be without four of its top five cornerbacks for the matchup against Peyton Manning and the Broncos. Starters Carlos Rogers and Tarell Brown are on season-ending injured reserve and backup Chimdi Chekwa is also out with a hamstring injury.

The Buffalo Bills will be without defensive starters Stephon Gilmore (concussion) and Marcell Dareus (knee) when they close their season in New England on Sunday.

Dallas linebacker Rolando McClain will sit out the Cowboys’ game Sunday at Washington because of an illness, capping a tumultuous week that included a fire destroying his $1.5-million home in Alabama. The team said McClain didn’t make the trip Saturday.
