College basketball: No. 5 Gonzaga remains unbeaten with rout of Loyola Marymount

Przemek Karnowski scored 17 points as No. 5 Gonzaga beat Loyola Marymount, 93-55, on Thursday night to remain the nation’s only undefeated Division I basketball team.

Zach Collins scored 15 points and Silas Melson added 13 for Gonzaga (16-0, 4-0 West Coast), which has the nation’s longest winning streak at 16 games. Six Bulldogs scored in double figures.

Buay Tuach scored 19 points for Loyola Marymount (8-8, 1-4), which has lost 15 straight games to Gonzaga dating to 2010.

Gonzaga has shot better from the field than all 16 of its opponents this season. The Bulldogs shot 53%, while holding the Lions to 34%, including 26% in the decisive second half.

at Iowa 83, No. 17 Purdue 78: Peter Jok scored 29 points with eight assists and six rebounds and the Hawkeyes rallied from a nine-point halftime deficit to beat the Boilermakers.

Freshman Tyler Cook had 16 points for Iowa (11-7, 3-2 Big Ten), which beat a ranked team at home for the second time this season.

at No. 18 Wisconsin 89, Ohio State 66: Bronson Koenig scored 21 points as the Badgers recovered from a poor shooting performance four days earlier to blitz the Buckeyes.

Wisconsin (14-3, 3-1 Big Ten) shot 39% from the field on Sunday, including just two for 14 from three-point range, as Purdue snapped the Badgers’ nine-game winning streak.

No. 20 Notre Dame 67, at Miami 62: V.J. Beachem sank the go-ahead basket and made the clinching steal as the Fighting Irish rallied from a four-point deficit in the final 21/2 minutes to beat the Hurricanes.

Notre Dame (15-2, 4-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) outscored Miami, 10-1, down the stretch to earn its sixth straight victory.

No. 21 St. Mary’s 74, at Portland 33: Calvin Hermanson scored a career-high 27 points and the Gaels held the Pilots to their lowest point total since a 43-27 loss to Pacific Lutheran in 1947-48.

Jock Landale added eight points and 10 rebounds for the Gaels (15-1, 5-0 West Coast Conference), who led by as many as 44 points. Alec Wintering, who leads the conference with an average of 21 points a game, was held to just four points for the Pilots (9-6, 2-1). Jazz Johnson led Portland with 13 points.

at No. 22 Cincinnati 66, Southern Methodist 64: Troy Caupain scored 16 points and blunted the Mustangs’ comeback, and the Bearcats let most of a 15-point lead slip away before holding on for a victory.

Cal State Fullerton 87, at Cal Poly 74: Tre’ Coggins scored a season-high 34 points, making six three-pointers, and the Titans (8-8, 2-1 Big West) shot 64% in the easy victory. Coggins reached 30 points for the second time this season, missing only once from the beyond the arc, making 11 of 15 overall and all six free throws.

at Pacific 79, Pepperdine 74: T.J. Wallace scored 25 points, Jack Williams added 17 points, and his late three-pointer helped the Tigers (8-10, 2-3 West Coast Conference) end a five-game skid against the Waves. Lamond Murray Jr. scored 23 points and Chris Reyes had 20 for Pepperdine (5-12, 1-4), which lost despite shooting 53%.

UC Irvine 66, at UC Santa Barbara 62: Jaron Martin and Luke Nelson had 14 points each and Ioannis Dimakopoulos sank a pair of free throws with 18 seconds left to help the Anteaters hold on. UC Irvine (10-9, 3-0 Big West) led by 15 early in the second half before allowing the Gauchos (2-12, 0-2 ) to close within two.

at UC Riverside 61, UC Davis 55: Secean Johnson and Malik Thames scored 13 points apiece and the Highlanders (3-11, 1-2 Big West) built a 16-point lead with 1:29 to go and held off a late run by the Aggies (10-8, 2-1), who shot only 29% from the field and 21% on three-pointers. Chima Moneke had 17 points and 11 rebounds for UC Davis.
