ANN ARBOR, Mich. Now the celebrities are coming to Jim Harbaugh.
Former Michigan student Derek Jeter, whose fame came as the 20-year shortstop for the New York Yankees, attended the Michigan football game Saturday and met Harbaugh on the field during the pregame warmups. Harbaugh presented him with a No. 2 jersey with his name on it.
Jeter, who grew up in Kalamazoo, attended Michigan for a semester in the early 1990s before signing with the Yankees and going on to a likely Hall of Fame professional career, which ended last fall. But he has always worn U-M gear and proudly represented the Wolverines.
Late last week he called U-M and asked about attending the game.
There were hints about his appearance because he was spotted at an on campus bar on Friday, Rick’s American Cafe, where a number of students tweeted photos of him.
