Jets’ Darrelle Revis has surgery on wrist to repair torn ligament

New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis had surgery Thursday in Manhattan, N.Y., to repair a torn ligament in his right wrist and is expected to be in a hard cast for two to three months.

The team announced that Revis will be limited during the off-season program, which begins April 18. He is expected to be fully recovered for training camp in late-July.

Revis was selected for his seventh Pro Bowl last season, but didn’t play because of what was announced as a sore shoulder. The star cornerback also had soreness in the wrist after the season and it lingered into the off-season.

Further tests and examinations revealed last week he had a torn ligament that required surgery. The procedure was performed by renowned hand-wrist specialist Dr. Charles Melone, the head of the Beth Israel Hand Surgery Center in New York.

Revis was never listed on the team’s injury report with a wrist ailment, but it apparently began feeling sore early in the season. It was initially believed Revis simply had a sprain and played through it while wearing a brace on his wrist after Week 3 against Philadelphia.

Revis, 30, ended up having a solid year, but was criticized for some uncharacteristic struggles in a few games.

The Denver Broncos continued bolstering their offensive line when they agreed to a five-year contract with former Seattle Seahawks tackle Russell Okung. Selected by Seattle with the sixth pick in the 2010 draft out of Oklahoma State, Okung started 72 regular-season games and 12 playoff contests for the Seahawks over the last six seasons. He was a Pro Bowler in 2012.

Running back Chris Johnson is returning to the Arizona Cardinals, agreeing to terms on a one-year contract. Johnson revived his career last season, leading Arizona with 814 yards rushing even though he missed the final five games of the season with a fractured bone just below his left knee.

He averaged 4.2 yards per carry and his four 100-yard rushing games were the most by a Cardinals player since 1985.

The Cleveland Browns signed safety Rahim Moore to a one-year contract. Moore spent last season with Houston before being released by the Texans earlier this month. He signed a three-year, $12-million deal last year but was benched midway through the season. He was inactive for the team’s final nine regular-season games.
