LeBron James sits out and Cavaliers fall to Wizards, 113-99

Taking advantage of a day off for LeBron James, the Washington Wizards defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers, 113-99, on Sunday in Washington behind John Wall’s 21 points, 13 assists and seven rebounds.

Wall made eight of 11 shots. At one point late in the third quarter, Wall had 12 assists, the same total as the Cavaliers. He sat out the fourth quarter.

Leading by nine points after the first half, the Wizards broke things open with a 9-0 run to start the second half, taking a 72-54 lead on a three-point basket by Otto Porter Jr., who finished with 21 points.

The Wizards have a five-game winning streak at home.

Coach Tyronn Lue gave James a rest because the Cavaliers are in the middle of three games in four days. James sat out only one other game this season, at Miami on Dec. 5.

Kyrie Irving had 28 points and six assists for Cleveland.

at Atlanta 87, Charlotte 76: Kent Bazemore scored 14 points, and Al Horford had 13 points and tied a season high with 16 rebounds to help lift the Hawks.

Marvin Williams had 16 points and Jeremy Lin scored 15 for the Hornets, who were trying to be the first Charlotte team since 1996-97 to win eight games in February.

The Hornets had a season-worst nine points in the first quarter but managed to pull to within two points with seven minutes to play.

Portland 111, at Indiana 102: Damian Lillard had 33 points and five rebounds for the Trail Blazers, who have won eight of nine games.

CJ McCollumn and Gerald Henderson each scored 19 points for the Trail Blazers.

Monta Ellis had 18 points for the Pacers, who have lost three of four games.

The Trail Blazers have won 13 of 15 games and the Pacers have struggled to put together more than two victories together since winning three games in a row in December.

at Orlando 130, Philadelphia 116: Rookie Mario Hezonja dunked four seconds into his first start, finishing with 13 points for the Magic.

Nik Vucevic and Victor Oladipo each scored 28 points, and Aaron Gordon had a career-high 22 points for Orlando. Each reached double figures in scoring in a 40-point first quarter for the Magic.

Jahlil Okafor scored 26 points for the 76ers, who lost their eighth game in a row.

at Detroit 114, Toronto 101: Andre Drummond had 15 points and 18 rebounds, and the Pistons took advantage of Kyle Lowry’s absence to win their fourth consecutive game.

Lowry sat out for the first time this season to rest. He scored 43 points against Cleveland on Friday.

The score was tied, 52-52, after the first half but the Pistons broke it open with a 37-point third quarter.

Terrence Ross scored 27 points for the Raptors.

Miami 98, at New York 81: Dwyane Wade scored 26 points and the Heat went on a 13-2 run to start the game, a lead it never relinquished.

Hassan Whiteside had 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Heat, which matched a franchise record with its fifth consecutive victory in New York.

Carmelo Anthony scored 25 points for the Knicks, who have lost 14 of 17. Robin Lopez had 14 points and 14 rebounds.

at Dallas 128, Minnesota 101: Chandler Parsons scored 29 points, including 13 in a row during a stretch covering the second and third quarters to help the Mavericks restore a 20-point lead they built in the first 11 minutes.

The Mavericks beat the Timberwolves for the sixth time in a row.

Parsons was 10 of 15 from the field, made four of seven three-point shots and all five of his free throws.

Shabazz Muhammad scored 24 points for the Timberwolves.
