Royals put Cain on disabled list
Center fielder Lorenzo Cain was put on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday by the Kansas City Royals because of a left hamstring strain.
Cain is batting .290 with eight home runs and 39 runs batted in.

Outfielder Melky Cabrera has a right wrist sprain that will keep him out of the Chicago White Sox lineup for a couple of days. Cabrera injured the wrist at Cleveland on June 18 and aggravated it Tuesday against Minnesota.
Reliever J.J. Hoover was optioned by the Cincinnati Reds to triple A. He gave up five runs in the 15th inning of the Reds’ 7-2 loss to the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday. It was the second grand slam given up by Hoover this season and sixth of his career, a club record.
Texas Rangers right-hander Yu Darvish threw a three-inning simulated game and could return to the rotation shortly after the All-Star break. Darvish has been sidelined since June 8 because of shoulder discomfort.
Washington Nationals closer Jonathan Papelbon threw a simulated game and is headed to a rehab assignment. Papelbon has been on the DL since June 13 because of an intercostal strain.
