Recovering from injury, Kobe Bryant hits floor for ‘set shooting’
Kobe Bryant hit the practice floor Wednesday to shoot the basketball.
“He was out today, shooting a little bit, jogging,†Coach Mike D’Antoni said. “He just keeps getting better.â€
The Lakers All-Star guard is recovering from a torn Achilles’ tendon, suffered in April.
“He’s just going up on his tiptoes,†D’Antoni said. “I don’t think he was jumping. It wasn’t flat-footed, but it was set shooting.â€
Bryant hasn’t participated in practice through training camp. The team isn’t sure when he’ll be able to truly return to the court.
“[The trainers] haven’t set a timetable,†D’Antoni said. “As soon as he can be ready, he’ll be ready.â€
Bryant still hasn’t been cleared to run or jump. He’s a regular on the team’s AlterG weight-bearing treadmill.
The Lakers start the regular season Oct. 29 at home against the Clippers. Bryant may not make all 82 games, but the team is hopeful he’ll return to form for the bulk of the season.
