The Lakers and Metta World Peace have had “casual conversations†about the forward returning to play for the team, said an NBA official who was not authorized to speak publicly on the matter.

The executive said there has been no talk about a deal and that nothing is imminent.

According to one NBA official, Kobe Bryant liked the idea of Metta World Peace coming back to the Lakers, but would let the front office make the final decision.

World Peace has been working out at the Lakers’ practice facility in El Segundo with Julius Randle the last two months, and the two have played pickup basketball at the Clippers’ practice facility in Playa Vista, an official said.

World Peace, 35, played for the Lakers from 2009-13 and had a pivotal role in helping them win the 2010 NBA championship over the Boston Celtics.

The Lakers waived World Peace after the 2013 season via the amnesty clause. He played 29 games with the New York Knicks during the 2013-14 season before being bought out of his contract.
