Lakers tip off Las Vegas summer league play on July 11 vs. Raptors

The Lakers will open summer league play in Las Vegas on July 11, the NBA announced on Thursday.

Battling the Toronto Raptors at the Cox Pavilion at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, the Lakers will presumably field a team starring the seventh pick in the NBA draft.

Summer league in Las Vegas will run for 11 days, featuring 24 teams (including a squad from the NBA Development League). The seven NBA teams not participating in the July event include the Boston Celtics, Brooklyn Nets, Detroit Pistons, Indiana Pacers, Memphis Grizzlies, Orlando Magic and Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Lakers will also play the New Orleans Pelicans on July 13 at the Thomas & Mack Center, followed by a July 14 matchup against the Golden State Warriors at Cox Pavilion.

Starting on July 16, each of the 24 teams will play at least two games under a tournament-style format to crown a summer league champion on July 21.

In addition to the seventh pick, assuming the Lakers don’t trade the selection, the team could have Robert Sacre, Kendall Marshall and Ryan Kelly on the squad, though given that Kelly is expected to be a restricted free agent, his status for the summer team is unclear.
