Lakers take on Warriors in ‘Elite Eight’ summer league battle

The Lakers’ summer league squad will face the top-seeded, undefeated Golden State Warriors (4-0) on Saturday night in Las Vegas at the Thomas & Mack Center.

With a record of 3-1, the Lakers have advanced to the “Elite Eight” in the inaugural summer league tournament after defeating the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday, 72-68.

The Lakers were seeded eighth out of the 22 participating teams. If they get past the Warriors, the Lakers will play again on Sunday against the winner between the Charlotte Bobcats and the D-League Select team.

If they’re eliminated by the Warriors, the Lakers will finish with a respectable 3-2 record. Through eight appearances in Las Vegas from 2004 to 2012, the Lakers won just eight of 26 games (30.7%).

Forward Marcus Landry has led the Lakers with 15.5 points a game. Guard Lester Hudson is the only other Laker in double figures at 10.8 points a game.

Robert Sacre has averaged 9.3 points on just 39.3% shooting from the field with 5.8 rebounds a game.

The Lakers as a team have shot just 36.9% from the field while scoring 73 points a game, winning despite their lack of efficiency.

The Warriors haven’t exactly lit it up either, averaging 74.8 points a game on 37% shooting. Kent Bazemore has averaged a team-high 18 points a game.
