U.S. will play Britain in the first round of the 2014 Davis Cup
The United States will host Britain in the first round of the 2014 Davis Cup, according to the United States Tennis Assn.
The competition will be held from Jan. 31 to Feb. 2 at a venue and on a surface to be determined by the USTA.
“Great Britain will be a challenging and exciting opponent for us,†U.S. captain Jim Courier said. “It’s going to memorable to have the two original Davis Cup nations face off again for the first time since the competition’s Centennial Celebration in 1999.â€
The United States-Britain rivalry is the oldest in Davis Cup history, dating to the first competition. The U.S. holds an 11-7 record against Britain in Davis Cup play, winning the last four times. Britain’s last win in the series came in 1935, but this British team will likely be lead by 2012 United States Open and 2013 Wimbledon winner Andy Murray.
The U.S. is expected to announce a site in mid-November. The U.S. team will likely be lead by John Isner and the doubles team of Mike and Bob Bryan.
