Faith no more: NBC taps Carrie Underwood for ‘Sunday Night Football’
So long, Faith. Hello, Carrie.
NBC announced Tuesday that country music superstar Carrie Underwood has been chosen to replace Faith Hill in performing “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night,†the opening theme for “Sunday Night Football.â€
Since winning Season 4 of “American Idol,†Underwood has won six Grammy Awards and has placed 17 No. 1 singles on the charts. She replaces Hill, who performed was has become an iconic opening from 2007-2012.
“I think it’s a perfect fit,†said Underwood, who formerly dated Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo and is now married to NHL player Mike Fisher of the Nashville Predators. “I’m a sports fan, a football fan, and we love Sunday nights around my household. So for me to be a part of it is something really special.â€
Said SNF producer Fred Gaudelli: “Faith called me in February and told me that she felt it was time, as she called it, to ‘pass the torch and let somebody else rock the open.’ So at that point, I only had one person in my sights, and that was Carrie.… She’s the only person I spoke to about this.â€
