Kings to retire alternate crown/black jerseys

The Kings announced Monday that they will retire what they call their crown/black jerseys after wearing the official alternate sweaters in their next two games, Monday and Tuesday against Phoenix at Staples Center.

The jerseys were the team’s primary home jersey from 2002 to 2011. The silver and black jerseys that are now their primary jerseys were introduced in November 2008.

Here’s a look at the Kings’ jerseys through the years. The Forum Blue and Gold still rank as the best, and the despised “Burger King” jerseys as the worst.

The team is encouraging fans to wear the soon-to-be-retired gear to both games and will award prizes to “the most passionate fans.” Purple crown gear will be on sale at 50% off at the Team LA store at Staples Center.

The jerseys worn by players on Monday and Tuesday will be authenticated and auctioned auctions.nhl.com.
